If there’s one sport that almost everyone loves, it’s ice skating. With all the turns, spins, and lifts, it takes your breath away. Whether watching a junior performance or a couple competing at the Olympics, it’s magical.
Something rare
Most everyone would agree that there’s no such thing as a bad ice-skating performance. Even if someone trips or falls, the fluidity on the ice overshadows any missteps. A few fortunate individuals got the opportunity to witness something in person that was so spectacular they found it difficult to describe.
The lucky ones
In 2017, members of an audience in Tokyo got to see Morgan Cipres and his partner, Vanessa James skate. There, this couple did something so remarkable…it was chilling.
Song of choice
This ice-skating pair chose the beautiful song, “Sound of Silence.” They went with the Disturbed’s rendition, which features the heavenly vocals of David Drairman. Since being uploaded to social media, their performance has now been viewed just under one million times.
Getting ready to skate
Before the announcer calls out their names, the two stand off to the side and just smile at each other. Both dressed in black, they were about to do something that would astound every member of the audience. Soon, the haunting song began to play.
The show begins
After taking their position in the center of the ice, their bodies move flawlessly together to the song. They immediately go into some difficult moves, landing each one with precision. With everything combined, especially lifts high above Capres’ head, you could hear a pin drop as people held their breath in anticipation.
Beyond technical ability
To skate at their level of competition, skaters must have excellent technical skills, and they do. But their performance to Sound of Silence goes well beyond that. You look at them and you can feel genuine love, admiration, and trust.
People began to comment
Once the video was uploaded, people immediately began to comment on the pair’s performance. One individual said, “I always feel like I’m watching a love story. I don’t get tired of watching them. Their coaches and choreographers are romantic, creative, and talented.
Additional praise
But many other people had something to say about this pair. Another person wrote, “It’s like they are one person but it’s two people. Like two hearts eating as one they are so in sync together it’s almost unreal. Such fun to watch.”
Unrivaled chemistry
As far as the chemistry between Cipres and James, no one knows if they’re actually a couple in real life. If they’re not, they certainly portray it in their moves. They definitely have explosive chemistry on the ice.
Amazing talent
Although they’re seamless together, they complete many difficult moves. It’s exquisite the way their bodies flow together. To do what they do, there has to be a high level of trust. And considering they’ve been a duo for the past 10 years you can tell they’ve developed that.
