One couple decided to sell their traditional home, in order to build the shipping container home of their dreams

Inspired by road trips they had taken, Mackenzie and Spenser sold their traditional home in Florida and moved to Texas to build a shipping container home of their dreams from the ground up.

Their YouTube channel Life Uncontained is dedicated to sharing the process of building their new home, as they start from scratch and learn as they go. This video starts with them building the outer frame of a new deck they’re adding on.

Since they’re using an old shipping container, Spenser had to shave down some of the wood to get it to fit with the dents in bottom beams. Once the main outside beams are in place, Spenser prepares to begin adding the floor joints.

To start off, Spenser has to measure and mark all the spots where he will connect the floor joints to the outside support beams. Once he does that, he begins screwing them all down before beginning the hardest part of the project.

Now that the base frame is complete, Spenser begins building the support beams for the roof that hangs over the deck

This is all new to Spenser, he’s learning it all as he goes but he’s doing an outstanding job. He built the whole frame for the roof supporting beams while it was laying on the ground, then, he lifted it up as one to put it into place. Spenser was a little skeptical on whether or not his plan will work, he explains in the video:

“This is going to be quite fun because the only way I can think of doing this, is building it all as one piece and then lifting it up into place like a wall.” He went on to say: “Yeah, I don’t know of any other solution how to do this but this is going to be very interesting.”

Once the roof support is ready to be put in place, Spenser puts it on his shoulders and carries it where it needs to be

The couple works together to lift the huge support beams up and lock them in where they have to be to give the roof the support it needs. Just like that, the frame to their deck is complete.
