This principal actually has some pretty sweet moves, and an even sweeter message! A+ Dr. Lee!

Can’t Touch This, MC Hammer’s famous bumpin’ song, just got a whole lot more topical!

Dr. Quentin Lee, the principal at Childersburg High School, Alabama, created a parody of the song for his students.

It’s absolutely hilarious and it’s a lot of fun to watch!

Quentin Lee is well loved at his school, and it’s easy to see why!

He’s quite charming and funny! He’s relateable to the kids without seeming out of touch with his comedy!

Most adults can’t quite hit that note!

And he manages all of this while staying family friendly and educational!

These are important qualities for a high school who’s student body would be nervous for the upcoming school year due to COVID-19!

It helps to break the ice and make sure the community will keep each other safe while keeping it lighthearted!

Schools are not exactly well known for being the most sanitary places in the world.

Kids are pretty gross for the most part.

Especially high schools! People are hitting puberty and things are getting weird! Hormones are flying and people don’t want to maintain physical distancing for pretty much any reason.

Now, Talladega county is under “Moderate Risk” according to the Alabama government as of August 7th, 2020. According to their guidelines, moderate risk counties (currently the lowest risk currently achieved by any county in Alabama) should:

  • Avoid groups of more than fifty people
  • Maintain six feet of distance
  • Wear a mask when social distancing is difficult
  • Wear face coverings at work when social distancing is not possible. Work from home when possible.

The “work from home when possible” line is fairly key here. An English as a Second Language teacher in Alabama, Michele Glasgow, says that August is too soon for students to return back to school.

“I can’t understand why we can’t go in the dressing room at T.J. Maxx to try on clothes, but we can have a classroom with 30+ kids and go into all of those classrooms to service those kids.”

Another teacher, Tracey Davis, shared Glasgow’s sentiment, saying:

“It would just be a disservice. It could be detrimental, it could be deadly. […]

“My personal thoughts are that the plans that I’ve had access to have so many holes in them that it won’t be safe at this time.

“[virtual classrooms] may not be preferred and most teachers in the Facebook group organizing the protest prefer teaching face-to-face but when looking at all the data, it’s really not an option if we want to slow the spread of COVID-19. It’s too big of a risk.”

Dr. Lee however, has been with the Talladega County School system for 14 years now!

He has more than a few accolades, according to his “About” page, that qualify him for making tough decisions like this:

“He has served as the Band Director of Talladega County Central High School, Assistant Principal of Childersburg Middle School, Principal of Talladega County Central High School, and now the Principal of Childersburg High School.”

More importantly, he likely realises the decision is out of his hands and that the state government will push for schools to reopen.

So rather than fight back and possibly lose his job, Dr. Lee made the best call of

adapting to the new situation, the new normal and making sure that his students will be able to do the same!

He’s using his natural charm and people skills to try and emphasize to his students how important it is to ensure they don’t catch or unknowingly spread the virus!

“He holds a B.S. is Instrumental Music Education from Alabama A&M University, Masters Degree Instructional Leadership from Samford University, Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Jacksonville State University, and a Doctoral Degree from Samford University in Educational Leadership.

That last degree is the one that brings everything full circle!

He’s really showing his leadership skills in a stressfull, contentious situation like this!

One of the best things about it is that you can see the students having a really fun time while they made the video!

It’s really worth it for some of the laughs and wordplay alone, I highly recommend you give the video a watch just below!
