Not to sound cliché, but when there’s a will, there’s a way.
Such was the case in Fort Worth, Texas when a man was barred entry to a hospital to wish his wife a happy birthday. COVID-19 safety regulations are necessarily tight, making it practically impossible to visit hospitalized loved ones in certain cases.
But now, there’s nothing but smiles outside the Tally residence. Why? Because Mom’s coming home.
The day she was released, friends and family met her outside her home, carrying gifts, signs, and glad tidings.
A sign reads “Welcome Home & Get Well Soon ❤️!”
But two weeks prior, Lisa and her family learned some startling news – she has Stage 3 ovarian cancer. She was soon checked into the hospital for observation.
On a recent Saturday afternoon – coincidentally the same day as Lisa’s birthday, husband Jim received a call,
“Saturday was her birthday. Saturday morning at 12:52 am, I get a call from the doctor and… um, she’s going into emergency surgery, something’s wrong. There’s some type of complication. Ya know, can’t visit.”
But for the moment, her family’s overjoyed just to have the chance to see her.
Everyone’s so excited. She’s truly loved.
Jim recalls his inability to enter the hospital. But he wasn’t going to let that stop him from seeing her on her birthday,
“Nothing was gonna stop me. I was gonna see my wife and I was gonna sing ‘Happy Birthday.'”
He’s gonna do everything in his power to give her a wonderful birthday memory.
At the time, Lisa was staying at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. The pandemic has made visiting especially difficult in hospitals, especially for those with compromised immune systems.
Although Jim technically can’t get in to see her, there are other options.
Brian Tally, Jim’s son, explains what comes next,
“We’re in the construction business. and somebody had a good idea of let’s go say hi to mom through the window so we loaded up the truck and drove it out there. And it looked real official and didn’t get stopped by anybody and got to see our mom.”
Now that’s thinking outside of the box.
A group of them proceed to hop on a mechanical lift and go to Lisa (at a safe, healthy distance of course).
They climb a few stories, looking for Lisa’s room.
They’re able to spot her window. She doesn’t know what’s coming.
This might be a coronavirus first – happy birthday via mechanical lift.
Lisa approaches the window to check out all the outdoor commotion.
She absolutely loves it.
Jim uses a megaphone to send his cheer,
“Happy birthday. I love you. I told you I’d go to the moon and I’m not leaving your side. I love you babe. I love you honey. They won’t let me in, but I’m coming up!”
Jim hits her with the sweet talk, not holding anything back. He loves her from the bottom of his heart.
He proceeds to blow her a birthday kiss, loving every moment of the interaction.
That’s some true love.
Jim wasn’t going to let anything hold him back from seeing the love of his life. The impossible combination of coronavirus and cancer couldn’t even stop him.
The gesture made Lisa’s day – a memory she’ll deeply appreciate for the rest of her life. She has a wonderful, loving husband.
When it comes to the well-being of a loved one, all else falls by the wayside. Even in the face of adversity, when there’s a will, there’s a way.
