Innovative food and health hacks are always welcome. Recently, Mandy Klentz (Tik Tok user @raising_krazies) shared a “newfound” method of stripping chicken breasts of unwanted sections.
“Okay so I’m starting to cook dinner. I learned something recently that I thought was so cool and I wanted to share.”
Get ready to change the way you look at raw chicken.
Mandy begins to share her work. She seems genuinely enthused and as bubbly as a bee.
Slapped across her video reads the caption, “the best cooking hack ever!”
Okay, so she’s being a bit hyperbolic, but it’s a mighty useful cooking trick.
She proceeds to pick up a light chicken breast, showing it off to the camera,
“This is just an organic breast tenderloin.”
Nice, she sticks to high quality meats. But she doesn’t like everything she sees.
She quickly notices an unwanted tendon. Her diction’s rather derogatory. She really dislikes tendon.
“But do you guys see this nasty little chicken tendon that’s in there?”
Harsh. But yes, yes we do. What of it?
The tendon’s been singled out – it doesn’t stand a chance.
“I don’t know if maybe I’m just late to the game…”
The exposition continues,
“But I learned that if you take a fork…”
Interesting. Time to get our hands dirty, literally and figuratively.
If you’re not comfortable with gore or guts, turn away (just kidding… kinda).
“You slip the tendon into the middle of the fork.”
Wow, I guess this is about to get a little surgical.
Time for some culinary deep cuts. Hopefully something for even the most untrained chefs (like myself).
She proceeds to slip the tip of the tendon between the teeth of her silver fork. Next, she takes a paper towel in her opposite hand to counter the tendon’s slippery exterior, applying pressure to the white tip with her fingers.
Interesting, I wonder where this is going…
She proceeds to apply more force, dislodging the tendon from its vessel,
“You grab the tendon and you just push down… you can pull the whole thing out!!!!”
The tendon slips right out of the breast.
A slight grin slides across her face. She’s maybe a little too happy, but the results speak for themselves.
She’s ecstatic at the results. It’s actually kind of gruesome, come to think of it… Like food surgery. I hope I didn’t just spoil your appetite.
She holds her work up to the camera for an easy viewing.
She can’t contain her excitement at all,
“Did anybody else know this? I literally thought this was like the coolest thing ever.”
A nifty little culinary trick, indeed. Mandy explains her inspiration for the video to Bored Panda. The video’s popularity comes as a huge surprise,
“I Googled how to remove the chicken tendon because I hate the chewy parts of the chicken in recipes and there was a really old video of someone doing this from years ago! I tried it and it worked. I thought it was really cool but I certainly didn’t imagine 4 million other people thinking it was also.”
Well, there you have it – a quick and efficient way to remove unwanted tendon from a chicken breast, courtesy of Mandy Klentz. You only need a fork and hands (and an optional paper towel).
I’d imagine the next step is to simply dispose of the removed tendon. Now you can finally prep that beautiful dish you’ve been yearning for, savoring the best parts of the breast.
